Believe it or not, you are a biological time bender. It might sound like science fiction, but our brains biologically ‘bend time’ every day, and we can consciously use this ability to combat stress and the feeling of being rushed. Let me prove it to you with a fascinating phenomenon that reveals the true, fluid nature of our temporal perception.

The ‘Stopped-Clock Illusion’ Explained
This incredible biological trick is called chronostasis, or the “stopped-clock illusion.” It happens constantly, every time your eyes move. When your eyes saccade, or jump, to a new target like a clock, your brain performs a remarkable feat to create a seamless, uninterrupted story of your reality. It actively edits your perception of time.
Essentially, your brain takes the new image from the clock and backdates it, stretching a single second to make it feel longer. This clever process ensures that you never perceive the blank space or blur of your eye’s rapid movement. Your reality always feels smooth and continuous, thanks to this built-in time-editing software.
“Your biology is already bending, stretching, and editing time just to make your reality feel smooth.”
Why This Proves You Are a Biological Time Bender
This phenomenon proves that time is not a fixed, external ruler that governs us. Instead, our experience of time is a perceptual event that our consciousness is ultimately in charge of. The feeling that you are a victim of time is just that, a feeling based on a limited perception.
So, what about that massive suppression program we all experience? That constant, nagging feeling of “I’m running out of time” or “There’s not enough time”? That is a scarcity program. It is specifically designed to keep you in a state of stress, lack, and fight-or-flight. But you don’t have to be a victim of it.
A Simple Technique to Expand Your Present Moment
If your brain can automatically stretch a second, what do you think your conscious mind can do with an hour or a day? The next time you feel rushed or stressed about time, I want you to anchor the stopped-clock illusion on purpose. Here is how you can do it.
- Stop and Anchor. Just stop what you are doing. Hold your hands still in front of you and simply stare at them.
- Take a Conscious Breath. Inhale and exhale one single, fully conscious breath.
- Command Your Perception. As you do this, command your perception with an affirmation. Say to yourself, “I am expanding this present moment. I have all the time I need.”
- Feel the Shift. As you gently alternate your gaze between one hand and the other, feel your nervous system downshift. Feel the “now” moment become wider and more spacious.
Step Into Your Power as a Creator of Time
By using this simple exercise, you are using your biological authority to step out of the program of “running out of time” and into the profound reality that I am the one who creates time. You are taking conscious control of your perception.
