Have you ever asked yourself why your nervous system keeps you stuck, even when you deeply desire change? It may be because your biology is hardwired to reject happiness and abundance, all in the name of safety. This post explores the biology of self-sabotage and reveals how your nervous system’s drive for familiarity can override your conscious desire for a better life.

The Biology of ‘Safe’ vs. ‘Happy’
If you’re still struggling with a persistent pattern or situation, ask yourself this powerful question’ “Why do I love it?” This may seem counterintuitive, but if you didn’t find some value in it on a subconscious level, you wouldn’t be struggling anymore. There is a hidden benefit that your system is still choosing. We literally choose everything we experience.
Hereโs a critical truth that no one tells you’ your nervous system does not care about your happiness. It only cares about your safety. To your biology, safety is simply whatever is familiar. Therefore, if struggle, lack, and chaos are what you have always known, your body receives them as safe and normal.
It literally creates a biological loop where the devil you know is always better than the devil you don’t.
Why Your Nervous System Keeps You Stuck in Survival Mode
Your subconscious will actively keep you stuck in a personal hell because, from a pure survival perspective, at least you know the rules of that hell. It fears that if you were to actually rise up, if you were to become abundant and free, you would become visible. In the ancient, primal hierarchy hardwired into our DNA, being visible means being a target.
So, as a protective mechanism, your body keeps you small to keep you alive. It’s an outdated survival program running in the background, dictating your experience without your conscious consent and creating a reality you say you don’t want.
How to Make the Unfamiliar Familiar
If you want to integrate this reality and create lasting change, you have to do the work of making the unfamiliar familiar. You must consciously and consistently acclimate your body to the frequency of ease, peace, and abundance until it no longer feels dangerous or foreign to your system.
The Ultimate Trap of ‘Being a Realist’
The biggest trap you will fall into on this journey is trying to be a “realist.” When you look at your current circumstances of lack or struggle and say, “Well, I’m just being real,” you are literally cementing that reality into place. You are using your powerful focus to replicate the past into your present and future moments.
You Co-Create Your Reality Through Observation
The universe is mathematically balanced between infinite lack and infinite abundance. The only variable in this grand equation is your observation. You are co-creating this moment by what you choose to believe is true. Consequently, you can only experience the reality that fits within your perceptions.
So, you must ask yourself’ “Do I want to keep identifying with the survival program?” Would you like to keep identifying as the beggar when your soul knows that you are royalty? You have the power to choose a new baseline and stop listening to the old story you mistakenly think is true.
If you’d like to explore deeper into all of this, we invite you to join the events we have for cycle breakers.
