Have we been thinking about the ‘ego’ all wrong in spirituality and manifestation? This post will completely shatter your perception of spirituality and explain exactly why your ego is sabotaging your manifestations. You are the observer, the experiencer, and the architect of your reality. You are experiencing your life unfolding kind of like a car driving down the road. Let’s explore where most people go wrong with manifestation and why it feels like a constant uphill struggle.

Why Manifestation Fails for So Many People
Why do so many people struggle to manifest what they truly want? There are two primary reasons for this constant uphill battle. The first reason is your ego, which is your human identity of uniqueness. This is the idea that “I’m different from that person,” “I’m this type of person,” “I like this, and I don’t like that.” It’s the part of you that wants a specific experience over there but not the one happening right here. All of that is the ego.
This version of you is constantly pushing and pulling against your soul, your spirit, God, or whatever you choose to call that higher power. It pushes and pulls because your ego believes it needs to achieve the manifestation, the goal, and the success in a very specific way that it has determined.
We Need to Redefine the Ego (It’s Not Evil)
Now, this might upset some people in the spiritual community, but I want to be very clear. Your ego is not bad. It is not some great evil thing that you must kill off. It is a part of you that is infinitely worthy and valuable, but you must understand its proper role.
Your ego has a certain level of ignorance. It’s not the part of consciousness that is meant to be the creative architect. It’s the experiencer part of consciousness. It’s designed to respond to your environment, to feel the experience.
While it is ignorant in many ways, it is also innocent. Because it’s the part of your consciousness that experiences life, it has been built up through past experiences. It doesn’t understand the future reality you are trying to tap into. It doesn’t know the destination or the journey on the road ahead. Since it is the experiencer, it defines what it wants and how to get there based only on past experiences, completely unaware of the true trajectory of your soul. It remains ignorant, not because it’s bad, but simply because it hasn’t been there yet.
Why Your Ego Is Sabotaging Your Manifestations (The Analogy)
Imagine your higher consciousness and your ego are riding down the road of life together in the vehicle of your perception. The ego keeps trying to grab the wheel, pushing and pulling it toward familiar experiences because that’s all it knows. Think of it like a child trying to drive a car when they aren’t tall enough to see over the wheel, let alone understand a map.
Your higher consciousness is just waiting for the ego to let go of the wheel so that it can steer the car to the next destination. Your soul, your higher self, knows the destination because it is everything at once, but it won’t force anything on the ego. To survive life’s experiences, the ego has often had to try to be the architect and take the driver’s seat. For many, negative experiences fracture consciousness, creating a separation between the ego and the higher self.
As a result, the ego has simply done its best to drive the vehicle, often making a mess of things and driving your life right into the ditch. But what else can you expect? It’s been trying to do a job it was never designed for. Because of this, the ego thinks it knows what it wants and how to drive, and it doesn’t trust your higher consciousness. It grips the wheel, insisting that life must play out exactly as it wants.
How to Actually Win the Game of Life
Here’s the secret. The road has already been built and chosen by your higher consciousness. The drive just needs to be taken. The past, present, and future exist as arrangements of quantum energy right now. The journey and destination are already mapped out. You are both the perceiver of that journey and the experiencer of it. Along the way, you get to choose how you will experience the journey.
Do you take the drive frustrated, upset, and trying to control everything, which will only lead you into the ditch? Or do you choose to be joyful and excited, anticipating what your soul has planned around the next corner, which will allow you to actually get there?
All you have to do to win the game of life is this:
- Think about what you would like to experience.
- Communicate that to your higher consciousness by feeling as if you already have it. This works because your higher consciousness speaks the language of energy and emotion.
- Let go. Watch the ride unfold, enjoy the ups and downs, and allow the connection with your higher consciousness to steer from the background.
You don’t need to know what’s coming next. Your job is just to enjoy the ride. Think of it like a movie. If it were completely predictable, it would be boring. We love a good plot twist because it catches us off guard. Life is interesting because it has both ups and downs, light and dark. They must coexist.
Embrace Your True Role
Your human identity, your ego, has just one job. It is to allow itself to enjoy the experience. Stop trying to control it. Stop trying to fight it. Stop trying to force it. Instead, reconnect with your higher consciousness and feel your emotions fully.
The observer part of you also has one job. That is to expand your awareness, align your perception with your higher consciousness that sees the road ahead, and simply observe the magic of the whole experience. Your higher consciousness wants you to have a great experience, but it can’t steer smoothly if the ego is constantly trying to jump in the driver’s seat. And it won’t force the path. If the ego wants to drive, it will let it, even if it crashes a little or a lot.
So, enjoy the experience, observe the process, and trust in your soul. Trust yourself, because you are all of it. Everything will always work out.
