If you are looking for a different take on chronic lower back pain, it might not be your spine, but rather the emotional weight you’re carrying. This post explores what your lower back pain is really telling you and offers a new perspective on how to find relief by addressing the root cause, which is often emotional rather than purely physical.

What Your Lower Back Pain Is Really Telling You
Chronic lower back pain isn’t always about a problem with your spine. More often than not, it’s about what you have been carrying emotionally. Your lower back is quite literally designed to support you, not just physically, but in how you move through life. It supports you through difficult situations, through complex relationships, and through everything that you are holding onto.
When you feel like you have to hold it all on your own, when you believe you are the only one keeping things together, your body listens. It does not ignore that immense pressure. Instead, your body adapts. It begins to provide the support that you are not allowing yourself to receive from others or the world around you.
How Emotional Overload Becomes Physical Pain
Over time, this constant self-support shows up as that persistent ache, that dull, heavy strain that never fully goes away. This pain isn’t a sign that something is broken, but rather an indication that something has been overloaded for far too long. Your body is responding to a prolonged state of emotional and mental strain.
That feeling of “I have to do this alone. I can’t drop this, I have to keep everything together.” Your body takes that literally.
Instead of trying to push through the pain, you can begin to give your body a different experience. You can teach it what it feels like to be supported. This somatic approach can create profound shifts by directly communicating with your body in a language it understands, the language of sensation and movement.
A Simple Somatic Exercise to Feel Supported
You can try this simple exercise right now to begin changing this pattern. The goal is to let your body physically feel support so it can start to release its compensatory tension.
- Get into Position: Stand up if you can. Place your hands on your hips, then wrap your fingers around to your lower back, so you are physically holding that space.
- Apply Gentle Pressure: Give yourself a firm, steady pressure with your hands. Allow your body to really feel the sensation of being held and supported by your own touch.
- Introduce Movement: Slowly and gently, begin to move your hips from side to side, and then slightly forwards and backwards. This should be a gentle sway, nothing forced. The idea is to reinforce movement while you are actively holding yourself.
- Reinforce with Affirmation: As you continue to sway, let your body register a new thought. Say out loud or in your head, “I am supported. I don’t have to carry everything alone.”
- Gentle Inquiry: Finally, ask yourself gently, “Where in my life do I feel like I’m holding everything by myself? What would it feel and look like to allow even a little bit of support here?”
Creating a Shift in Your Reality
When your body starts to truly feel supported, it stops trying to compensate for the lack of it. Performing somatic exercises like this one can create a powerful and tangible shift within your physical and energetic systems. This is where you will begin to notice small but significant details in your reality changing.
As you change your internal state, different kinds of support and new opportunities will start to show up in your external reality, often in very unexpected and surprising ways. Your body’s release signals that you are ready to receive, and the universe responds in kind.
