Many people believe that effective visualization means seeing a perfect, crystal-clear movie playing inside their mind, like a 4K image behind their eyelids. This common misunderstanding leads people to think they’re doing it wrong if they can’t “see” it. However, my take is that ‘I can’t visualize’ is a misunderstanding because visualization is a feeling, not a perfect picture. Itโs never been about seeing; itโs about feeling.

A Simple Exercise in Feeling
Let me show you what visualization truly is, even if you believe you have aphantasia. You don’t even need to close your eyes for this. Just think about a lemon. That’s it, just a lemon.
Imagine what it feels like holding it in your hand. Remember the unique texture of its skin, those tiny little bumps and pores. Now, imagine placing that lemon on a wooden cutting board and slicing it into thin pieces. Hear the distinct sound of the knife as it moves through the fruit. Bring your awareness to the smell, that sharp, fresh citrus aroma.
Finally, imagine picking up one of those slices, bringing it toward your mouth, and taking a bite. Pause for a moment.
Did Your Body Respond?
What just happened in your body? Did you have even the slightest, most subtle experience of salivating? Perhaps your jaw tightened slightly. If you had any subtle reaction at all, you just did it. You successfully visualized.
Here’s the important part. Did you really need to see a perfect, clear image of that lemon for your body to respond? No. You accessed something much deeper.
You accessed the frequency of the lemon. You remembered the experience of it. And your nervous system responded as if it was real.
Even if you’re denying it right now, your body’s response is proof.
Why Visualization is a Feeling, Not a Perfect Picture
There is something very important to remember about visualization. It isn’t about seeing; it is about remembering. It is about feeling. It is about immersing yourself in a frequency so fully that your body begins to respond to it. That is the essence of imagination. Imagination is awareness, and that is remembrance.
Your body doesn’t know the difference between a past memory and a future one. To your nervous system, it’s all just frequency.
How to Shift from ‘Seeing’ to ‘Feeling’
So, the next time someone tells you to visualize your dream life and your mind says, “I can’t see anything,” stop trying to see. That is just your logical mind trying to take control. And most importantly, stop telling yourself that you have aphantasia. Do not identify with something that is not true.
Instead, shift the question. Ask yourself:
- What does it feel like?
- What does that version of you feel like in your chest?
- What does peace feel like in your body?
- What does certainty feel like?
- What does wholeness feel like right now?
Let the feeling be your vision. Access that frequency first, because that is what you are here to remember.
Daily Practice and Going Deeper
You can begin practicing this every single day with simple moments. Imagine placing your hands into warm water. Everyone knows what that feels like. Feel the temperature. Feel the moment as you swirl your hand inside of it. You don’t need to force an image; you just need to feel what is true.
And if you’re ready to go deeper and learn how to use your whole body to consciously create your reality, I invite you to join one of our open classes. We explore how to quantum shift into full embodiment. If you’d like to grab your seat, you can check the schedule for the next Ignite Your 13 Chakra Blueprint event. You can do this, because the truth is you’ve been doing it your whole life.
