Many believe that true spirituality is choosing your life, not judgment, and I fully agree with this perspective. In fact, my take is that watching sports is just as ‘deep’ as meditation, and judging another person’s passions as ‘surface level’ is a spiritual trap. Ultimately, at the highest level of spiritual awakening and enlightenment, the goal is simply to enjoy life, to be who you choose to be, and to enjoy that experience fully.

The Illusion of “Deep” vs. “Surface-Level” Interests
Some people choose to be individuals who just enjoy a Netflix series. Others choose to be people that enjoy sports. And some people choose to find joy in spirituality and depth. But what if all of these are equally deep?
When we begin to see every interest as equally deep and equally valuable, our perspective shifts. A person values their interest highly because that’s what they are drawn to. Now, they might be interested in those things because of societal conditioning. However, if we zoom out to the highest level, a fascinating pattern emerges.
Everything that any one individual chooses to hyperfocus on is, objectively, a little weird. You have one person who is super into talking about business and building companies. From a cosmic perspective, that’s a strange focus. You have another person fixated on watching other people throw a ball around, which we call sports. Also weird. Then you have another person who is obsessed with stories, movies, and the characters in the latest show. Very weird.
Why We Judge: True Spirituality is Choosing Your Life, Not Judgment
I could go on and on, right? All of these different people found joy in those different places because something in their past, in the conditioning of their life, made that interest valuable to them. Perhaps they love watching movies because a particular film is tied to their only good childhood memory. Understanding and shifting these deep-seated patterns is a journey in itself, and for those looking to explore this further, our training on breaking free from such cycles can offer powerful insights.
When we take these interests and label them, saying, “This is deep and spiritual,” while “this is surface level and meaningless,” we are creating separation where Source doesn’t. We impose a hierarchy that doesn’t exist in a state of unity.
We are creating separation where source doesn’t.
Embracing Preference Over Hierarchy
When we start to make judgments and say one thing is surface level and another is not, we miss the point. It’s not about what is “surface level” versus what is “deep.” It’s simply about preference.
My preference is this. Their preference is that. That’s perfectly fine. What if, when we’re in the same space with each other, I genuinely took an interest in their preference? Or what if I allowed them to genuinely take an interest in my preference, without either of us claiming one is lower or higher than the other? This is where true connection and understanding can begin, fostering a spiritual path free of unnecessary division.
