Are you experiencing constant heat on the sides of your neck? If your usual throat chakra work isn’t moving it, there’s a good reason why. It’s likely because that heat in your neck isn’t your throat at all. This sensation is what I call a “bridge problem,” an energetic conflict between your mind and your heart. Let’s decode this important signal from your body.

Understanding the Mind-Heart ‘Bridge Problem’
Anatomically, the sides of your neck house your carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain, and your vagus nerve, the main highway of your nervous system. When you feel persistent heat here, not pain, but just heat, you are feeling friction. In physics, friction occurs when two opposing forces rub against each other. The same principle applies energetically.
Your neck serves as the energetic bridge between the mental body (the head, logic, control) and the emotional body (the heart, feeling, flow). That heat is the friction caused by an override. Essentially, your mind is trying to force control or figure out a situation, while your heart and body are pulling in the complete opposite direction.
Your head is sending a high-voltage command of “do this,” and your body is screaming, “no.”
This conflict causes energy to accumulate at the narrowest point. Think about how the human body resembles a bottle; the neck is the bottleneck. This isn’t a throat chakra issue, which would relate to trouble speaking. Instead, you’re having trouble surrendering control, which points to a conflict between your solar plexus and third eye chakras.
The Vagal Cool Down: An Exercise for That Heat in Your Neck
To resolve this, we need to stop the friction. Here is a simple but powerful body key you can use that I call the “Vagal Cool Down.” Follow these steps to release the mental pressure and cool the energetic heat.
- Warm Your Hands: Rub your hands together briskly until they feel warm. We are generating energy here to create a cooling effect.
- Place Palms on Your Neck: Gently place your warm palms on the sides of your neck. You might be surprised at how cool they feel against the heat. Hold them there for a moment.
- Slow Head Turns with Cooling Breath: Very slowly, turn your head to the right. As you turn, exhale a long, cooling breath through an O-shaped mouth, as if you’re blowing out a candle. Return to center and repeat on the left side.
- Visualize and Affirm: As you perform the exercise, visualize a cool, blue water flowing from your brain all the way down into your heart. Then, say the following conscious choices out loud to anchor the shift.
Conscious Choices to Speak Aloud
- I choose to set down the need to force or create a specific outcome.
- I choose to receive the communication from my body in a way that I can understand it.
- I choose to allow my brain and my heart to find ease.
Practice From a Place of Support, Not Force
When you do a somatic exercise like this, the mental pressure drops, and the physical heat will begin to dissipate. It’s crucial to approach this practice from an energy of support, not from a need to heal, fix, or figure anything out. Do it simply because it feels good to bring ease to your system.
