Stop Breaking Your Comfort Zone. Expand It.

Has ‘breaking your comfort zone’ always felt wrong or counterproductive? There’s a powerful neurological reason why this common advice often fails. The idea that you must aggressively break through your comfort zone can actually be the very reason you keep snapping back into old patterns. It’s time to learn why you should stop breaking your comfort zone and expand it instead.

Why ‘Breaking’ Your Comfort Zone Backfires

From a neurological perspective, your nervous system’s primary job is to keep you alive and safe. It accomplishes this by equating what is familiar with what is safe, because it already knows how to handle familiar experiences. Your comfort zone isn’t a cage of laziness; it’s a boundary defining what your system currently perceives as safe.

So, when you try to force your way out with sheer willpower, your internal system starts screaming. It literally perceives this push as a threat to your survival and goes into high-alert mode. In response, your subconscious floods you with reasons to start a procrastination loop, an extremely effective tactic to pull you back into the safety of what it knows.

The goal isn’t to destroy your comfort zone, it’s to expand it to be a container for what you actually choose.

How to Expand Your Comfort Zone. A Simple Hack

Here is a simple expansion hack for you. This practice is especially great to do while sitting in a place where you feel physically safe, like in your bed or your car. However, you can do this with me right now, wherever you are, as long as it’s safe to do so.

  1. If it’s safe, close your eyes and take a deep breath.
  2. Gently imagine a glowing field of energy in your heart.
  3. As you take another deep inhale and exhale, slowly expand that glowing field outwards until it takes up the whole space around you.
  4. While you breathe gently, imagine taking one small step towards your next level. Visualize seeing everything in your reality lighting up inside this glowing sphere of energy from your heart.
  5. Now, shift that visualization to look exactly like the reality you are choosing to manifest and create.

The Most Important Step. Anchoring in Safety

We’re going beyond simple visualization, and this next part is key. As you visualize your desired reality, keep bringing your awareness back to the feeling of safety in your body right now. Breathe in deeply as you see your new reality come to life in your energetic field. Then, breathe out and gently focus on the sensation of being safe in your body at this moment.

You can even combine this with a conscious choice practice. Try repeating choices like, “I choose to feel safe living a life I love right now.” Take another deep breath, and then open your eyes. You’ve just used your heart chakra’s energy to help stabilize your nervous system.

Making Your Next Level Your New Normal

Try this for five minutes a day, right before bed and when you wake up, or anytime you have a few seconds. Doing this regularly will teach your nervous system that the new, unfamiliar energy you’re creating is also safe. This process allows you to expand your capacity and finally embody the changes you desire.

Mastering this ability to communicate with and restructure your nervous system is a powerful way to create sustainable growth in your personal life and business. I use the 13 chakra system as a blueprint to work with the entirety of consciousness in your energy field, integrating these shifts in a way that truly lasts. If you want to learn how to make your next level your new comfort zone, I teach the full process in my live event. You can check the schedule for the next Ignite Your 13 Chakra Blueprint event here.
