The Unconscious Clench: Your Body’s Emergency Brake
Let’s talk about a common, yet often unnoticed, physical habit’ the gluteal clench. Most people, when they’re feeling stressed about money or their safety, unconsciously clench their glutes and pelvic floor. You might even be doing it right now without realizing it. This isn’t just a simple case of muscle tension; it represents a much deeper energetic issue.
This persistent clenching is essentially a root chakra lockdown. Your root chakra, located at the base of your spine, governs your sense of survival, your feelings of safety, and your relationship with your finances. When you are constantly tensing this area, you are sending a powerful biological signal to your nervous system.
When you clench here, you are biologically signaling to your nervous system that we are under attack. Hold onto everything. Nothing comes in and nothing goes out.
How Physical Tension Can Stop Blocking Your Abundance Flow
The state of flow and the state of clenching are mutually exclusive; you simply cannot be in both at the same time. This constant physical contraction creates a powerful energetic wall around you. This barrier effectively sabotages new opportunities and prevents wealth from entering your life because your body is too busy operating in survival mode to be open to receiving.
Your body’s primary focus becomes holding on and protecting itself, leaving no room for expansion, growth, or the welcoming of abundance. To thrive, you must first teach your body that it is safe to release this protective tension and step out of survival mode.
The ‘Safety Drop’: A Somatic Exercise to Release Tension
Here is a simple, yet profound, somatic exercise to help you release this pattern. I like to call this the “Safety Drop.” It’s a quick practice you can do anytime you feel tension building.
- Find a comfortable seated position in your chair.
- Gently close your eyes and take a very deep breath in.
- As you exhale, consciously and completely release your glutes.
- Allow your hips to feel heavy, letting the chair fully support you.
As you do this, notice any feelings of fear or vulnerability that arise. That sensation is the resistance. It may feel scary at first, but it’s an illusion. Stay in this relaxed state and gently say to yourself, “I choose to know that I’m safe. I choose to trust the ground to hold me.” Training your body to trust again is a wonderful exercise to reinforce your conscious choices and reclaim your sense of safety.
