You’ve heard it a thousand times, but letting go is terrible advice. The well-meaning spiritual guidance to ‘Just Let It Go’ might actually be the source of your self-sabotage. In the spiritual world, you’re constantly told to release your attachments, let go of your desires, and surrender to the flow. But if you are a creator with a mission burning in your soul, that advice often feels impossible, and for a good reason.

The Internal War Caused by “Letting Go”
The problem is that “letting go” is a passive concept that your nervous system often interprets as giving up. When you try to release things that hold you back or no longer serve you, those parts of your consciousness feel like you’re throwing them in the garbage. Unsurprisingly, this creates an internal war.
These parts of you fight for survival. This internal conflict creates self-sabotage. You try to release and let go some more, but a vicious cycle plays out that leaves you going two steps forward and three steps back.
Why Letting Go Is Terrible Advice, Do This Instead
Here’s how to reframe this in a way that changes the game. It’s not about letting go. Instead, it’s about letting in, expanding your capacity, and relaxing your grip to allow more. You don’t need to get rid of anything. You can simply expand your energetic container to hold more of the reality you are choosing to create, but without the charge of desperation.
I like to map this expansion out using the thirteen chakra system. It provides a clear blueprint for expanding yourself to hold more. For example:
- You don’t let go. You expand your heart chakra’s capacity to integrate everything that has held you back, turning it into wisdom.
- You don’t let go. You expand your throat chakra for more authentic expression.
- You don’t let go. You expand your solar plexus for more profound empowerment.
Become the Embodied CEO of Your Reality
This is an active process of becoming, not a passive process of releasing. This shift towards embodiment instead of always trying to release is the key. When you stop fighting parts of yourself and start integrating them, you become the embodied CEO of your reality.
You can’t release the stuff that held you back anyways because you’re the only thing that’s ever held yourself back. And you can’t get rid of any part of yourself. So instead, reconnect with every part of yourself and allow it in.
If you’re ready to stop trying to let go and are ready to start expanding your capacity to hold the reality that you choose, you can begin now. Your subconscious listens when you take action on new information. To anchor this in, type “I choose to expand” in the comments below.
