Have you ever found that your chronic pain seems to stick to just one side of your body? It’s a common experience, and I’ve learned an energetic explanation that makes so much sense. To decode your body’s left vs. right side pain, we first need to understand the fascinating way our brain communicates with our body. Pain on the right side of your body tells a completely different story than pain on the left side, and this post will help you understand the message.

The Brain’s Cross-Lateral Connection
Your body is wired in a cross-lateral way, which means there’s a direct crossover between the hemispheres of your brain and the sides of your body they control. This creates a powerful energetic map that can help us understand the root cause of physical discomfort.
The left hemisphere of your brain, which you can think of as the logical, linear, masculine “accountant,” controls the right side of your body. In contrast, the right hemisphere of your brain, the creative, intuitive, feminine “poet,” controls the left side of your body. Understanding this division is the first step in decoding the messages your body is sending you.
How to Decode Your Body’s Left vs. Right Side Pain
When you experience chronic issues on one side, it’s not random. Your body is pointing to a specific energetic imbalance in your life. By looking at which side is affected, you can gain incredible insight into what needs your attention.
The Right Side: Masculine Energy and Action
If you have persistent issues on your right side, such as in your shoulder, hip, or knee, it often points to a conflict regarding the masculine principle. This can relate to your career, your ability to give, or taking action in the world. Essentially, it is the energy of doing that has become stuck or imbalanced.
The Left Side: Feminine Energy and Being
Conversely, if you experience issues on the left side of your body, the conflict is often connected to the feminine principle. This could involve challenges with receiving, emotional flow, or family matters. In this case, it is the energy of being that has been wounded or blocked.
Your body isn’t hurting; it is pointing specifically to where the imbalance lies in your life.
A Simple Exercise to Reintegrate and Balance Your Body
So, let’s work to reintegrate and connect the two sides. This simple exercise helps the two hemispheres of your brain communicate with each other across the corpus callosum, creating whole-brain coherence. You can do this sitting down or standing up.
- Begin by standing or sitting in a comfortable position.
- Lift your left knee and gently tap on it with your right hand.
- Next, lift your right knee and tap on it with your left hand.
- Continue this cross-crawl march rhythmically for about 60 seconds.
This movement actively integrates logic with intuition and the masculine with the feminine. It signals to your entire system that you are ready for balance and coherence, a state also known as Hemi-Sync. You are truly designed for balance.
