What if you realized your entire life is a ‘made up story’ and it led to total freedom, not a crisis? The key is understanding that you hold the pen. Learning how to Create Total Freedom By Writing A New Story is a profound realization that can either paralyze you or empower you beyond measure. The freedom comes from knowing a few simple, yet powerful things about the nature of reality and your role within it.

The Shocking Truth: Your Life is a Made-Up Story
The first step is realizing that it’s all made up. All the stories everybody tells themselves are made up. Everything that anybody thinks they want is made up. If they are passionate about something, they made up that passion somewhere, or it was made for them by their circumstances in life. If they’re super skilled at something, they made that up. If they’re excited about something, they made that up.
Even a story of depression, the “woe is me” and “life sucks” narrative, is also made up. Perhaps life helped make that story up, and it felt like it was made for them. But either way, it’s all fabricated.
A Fork in the Road: Despair or Empowerment?
When you present this idea to people, the reaction can go one of two ways. On one side, you say this to the wrong person and it doesn’t help them at all; in fact, it can screw them up really, really bad. They might lose their composure because they can’t handle the reality that we make it all up. They miss the empowerment hidden within that truth.
Some people hear this and think, “Alright, so what’s the point?” This can lead to a downward spiral.
Some people would hear that and be like, okay, it’s all made up. I get to make it up then. And they go and write a new story. Which one are you? Which one do you wanna be?
I’ve been both people, by the way. I’ve tried both sides of this, and the second option is much better. If you choose the first path, you can spiral into a never-ending depression. You take the realization that “it’s all made up” and choose the story of powerlessness. This leads to thoughts like, “that means I’m made up, so I’m worthless. I might as well just die. Nothing matters, and there’s no purpose or meaning.” You can spiral into a really, really shitty place.
However, as you’re dealing with this cosmic joke, you might have another realization, just as I did. Wait a second. That story of worthlessness? That’s also a story I’m telling myself. It’s also made up, and I’m actively choosing to make it up that way. What the heck am I doing to myself? This is all kinds of messed up.
How to Create Total Freedom By Writing A New Story
So, we have to be able to rewrite the story and change the identity. The problem is, we get really personal with our identity and our story. The story frames our identity, and our identity is who we believe we are. If we try to just burn that and create a new one, there’s a visceral threat response our nervous system comes up with.
If we try to change the story, the nervous system can resist, saying, “No, no, no, that can’t happen because that doesn’t fit the formulated identity.” This internal conflict is where many people get stuck. If you find this internal resistance is a repeating pattern of self-sabotage, exploring our “Break Free From Self Sabotage” training event can provide powerful tools to shift it. Be sure to check the schedule on the page for the next available class.
Ultimately, the whole point of making choices is to write a new story. It’s about giving yourself something to do, because the human spirit needs something to do. You have the power to pick up the pen at any moment and start a new chapter. The choice is always yours.
