So many healers and coaches have world-changing ideas and want to create a course or platform to impact people’s lives. But they often start in entirely the wrong place. They spend years mapping out a curriculum, recording videos, and perfecting every detail of their program. Then, they launch it to the world, only to be met with crickets.
They find it incredibly challenging to find the people who actually need the course they’ve created. Maybe this sounds familiar. Perhaps you’ve been working on a course or have already built one and are now wondering, “What do I do now?” If that’s you, I’m going to share the exact steps you need to take.
The problem is an approach that is idea-first. You have a concept you know can change the world, so you package it and then try to find the people who need it. This is putting the cart before the horse. You’ve created something wonderful, but you haven’t ensured it’s a perfect puzzle piece match for the people you’re here to serve because you don’t know how to talk to them yet.
How to Build Your Business Around People, Not Ideas
Let’s flip this on its head. First, you need to work directly with people. You must have in-depth conversations to understand what’s going on inside their minds. Where do they need help? Where do they need support? What’s really happening on their journey as they try to implement the knowledge you have to share? If you don’t truly understand your people, you’ll never be able to communicate your idea in a way that attracts them to your course after it’s created.
This is where so many impactful ideas go to die. People create an entire program but haven’t figured out how to connect with the people who need it. I have news for you; business is not about marketing, strategy, or how often you post on TikTok. It’s not even about consistency most of the time.
Business is entirely built around relationships. You must develop the relationships with the people that you are here to serve.
Truly understand them and apply your idea to their lives with them. This gives you a nuanced picture of every aspect of their journey. Then, you can take what you’ve learned from those clients and put it into a framework.
Introducing the “People-First Framework”
I call this the People-First Framework because you connect your idea directly to the people who need it. You get to see exactly how it works for them, and then you build your course, program, and systems around what is proven to work.
And here’s the kicker, what your idea originally was and what it becomes after working with people will be completely different. Your clients will surprise you. They will knock your socks off with new ideas and perspectives you hadn’t considered. Most importantly, they will show you exactly what you need to know to connect your big idea to real people with real problems, goals, and desires.
If your business is working off of an idea, it is going to die. If your business is working off of people, it is going to thrive. That is the fundamental difference.
The Secret to Connecting With Your People
Now, you’re probably thinking that makes sense, but how do I start working with those people? The secret everyone avoids has to do with your throat chakra. It’s about communicating your idea in a way that allows the people who genuinely need it to hear you, engage with you, and take action.
One of the best ways to do this is by sharing and teaching openly. Teach your entire process on a platform like TikTok before you ever build it into a formal course. If you’re creating a workbook, teach the entire workbook first. The beautiful thing is that people will start reaching out. They’ll send you messages saying, “Hey, I’ve been watching your videos and I love what you’re teaching. Where can I work with you more deeply on this?”
You take those people and work with them one-on-one or in very small groups. Then, you use all the feedback from that intimate setting to build your program around a real community and genuine resonance. Other people who need what you offer will be magnetized to the container you’re building because you’re building it specifically for them.
Get Paid While You Refine Your Idea
This doesn’t mean giving your work away for free. You’re not experimenting with guinea pigs. Your idea is already good and well-honed; it just needs refinement to connect it to the people it’s meant to serve. When you work with people in this one-on-one exploratory phase, they will pay you. You’ll work with them in a paid coaching container, diving deep into their problems and applying your unique process to their lives in very real ways.
This allows you to measure your impact and see where they struggle to implement what you’re teaching. So, when you finally record that course or build that workbook, you are addressing every level of their needs, pain points, and desires. This creates a super-resonant container that makes people feel like you’re speaking directly to them, because you are. You spent the time getting to know them first.
Your Next Step to Making a Real Impact
This is one of the biggest things so many coaches and healers miss. They have the message, but they’re terrified of developing the relationships needed to truly understand the people they’re here to serve. As you do this, value yourself significantly. Work with people one-on-one, and then build your program around them.
