Your Power Is Not In The Taking, It’s In Your Capacity To Receive

We’ve been using the wrong language for our most basic function, and it’s blocking our power. We don’t ‘take’ a breath, we receive it, and this simple shift changes everything. Your power is not in the taking, it’s in your capacity to receive, and understanding this distinction is the first step toward unlocking the flow of abundance, ideas, and peace into your life.

The Flaw in the Language of ‘Taking’

Our common language is built around force and effort, which creates internal resistance. Phrases like “take a deep breath,” “take a break,” or “take what’s yours” all imply an act of grasping or seizing. This mindset keeps us in a state of striving, not allowing, and subtly trains our nervous system to clench and constrict.

When you are stressed, anxious, and grasping for control, your entire system tightens up. In this constricted state, you are not creating space and you are not empty. As a result, the universe cannot rush in to fill you with what you desire, whether that is air, abundance, or inspiration. The very act of trying to take blocks the flow.

The Biological Reality of Receiving a Breath

Your body does not actually take a breath; the mechanics of respiration are an act of reception. Your diaphragm muscle contracts to create a vacuum within your chest cavity. This state of emptiness allows the air from the universe to rush in passively and fill your lungs. It is a beautiful process of allowing, not forcing.

Inside your lungs, there are millions of tiny, paper-thin sacks called alveoli. This is where the magic happens, a sacred bridge where oxygen enters the blood. But even these delicate structures cannot pull air in. Their function depends entirely on the empty space created for them. All your body does is create a state of receptivity.

You do not take a breath, you receive one. You don’t take abundance, you receive it. You don’t take the next idea, you receive it.

Practice a Body Key. Your Power Is Not In The Taking, It’s In Your Capacity To Receive

To embody this principle, you can use a simple breathing exercise to shift from a state of taking to receiving. This practice involves fully emptying your lungs to create the sacred space necessary for the universe to rush in. It is a physical reminder that your power lies in your ability to allow and accept.

  1. Exhale Fully. Begin by pushing all of the air out of your lungs. Make an audible “ah” sound and continue to exhale until you feel completely empty and can’t go anymore. This is the act of creating a vacuum.
  2. Simply Receive. Once you are completely empty, do not try to inhale. Just relax and allow the air to rush back in naturally. Feel it fill your stomach and your chest. Notice that your body breathes all by itself without any effort from you.
  3. Allow the Flow. See this simple act as a metaphor for life. Stop trying to take what you desire. Instead, focus on creating the sacred empty space for it, and then simply allow it to rush in.

By practicing this, you retrain your body and mind to operate from a place of receptivity rather than force. And if you need support to create this consistency in your life and connect with others on this path, you can join us for our live events and find more resources in our community.
