Clarity Doesn’t Live in the Waiting, It Lives in the Experience

Have you ever caught yourself saying, “I’ll see if it’s in alignment with me”? On the surface, it sounds incredibly aware and intentional. However, I think we’re misusing the concept of ‘alignment’ as a socially acceptable form of procrastination and self-sabotage. The truth is, genuine clarity doesn’t live in the waiting, it lives in the experience, and it’s time we explored what that truly means.

The Misuse of “Alignment” as Hesitation

Most of the time, when we say we’re checking for “alignment,” what’s really happening is hesitation. An opportunity arises, a next step presents itself, or a decision needs to be made, and you already feel something about it. But instead of moving, you pause. You tell yourself, “I’ll sit with it. I’ll feel into it. I’ll check if it’s in alignment.”

Honestly, what you’re often doing is giving yourself a moment of procrastination so that your self-sabotage pattern can kick in. If you’re truthful with yourself, you felt an immediate response the moment the choice appeared. You felt a pull, a curiosity, or even a discomfort. That is the signal.

When the Mind Creates Avoidance

After that initial intuitive signal, the mind often comes in with a flood of doubts. “What if it’s not right? What if I’m not ready? What if it’s not the best option?” Suddenly, the process is no longer about genuine alignment; it’s about avoiding making a decision altogether.

Real alignment doesn’t come from overthinking something for days on end. It comes from the discernment of knowing. It comes from moving with what’s in front of you and having clarity on what you want. You don’t figure out if something is a good fit by standing still and analyzing it from a distance.

You figure it out by walking through the door and seeing what happens.

Why Clarity Doesn’t Live in the Waiting, It Lives in the Experience

This is precisely where people get stuck. They stand in front of countless doors, trying to feel 100% certain before they dare to open them. But that certainty you’re searching for only comes after you walk through, never before. So, people remain in this loop of “checking alignment,” which is really just delaying movement.

Every time you do this, you reinforce the same pattern of hesitation and overthinking. As a result, you stay exactly where you are instead of feeling it, moving into it, and leaning into the unknown to see what opens up. If you recognize this pattern of self-sabotage within yourself, you can explore our Break Free From Self Sabotage training to learn more about shifting these cycles.

Embracing the Journey of Discovery

Not every door you open is the final door. Some doors are meant to redirect you. Others open into something you couldn’t have possibly planned or even imagined. The crucial point is that you only get access to this information by stepping forward.

So, the next time you catch yourself saying, “I’ll see if it’s in alignment,” just pause for a second. Ask yourself a simple question.

Am I actually checking in with myself, or am I avoiding walking through the door?

These are two very different things, and only one of them will actually move you forward in life.
