How I Went From Hating My Life to Living a Life I Love

I want to share exactly how I went from hating my life to living a life I love, traveling the world. I used to think concepts like chakras were ‘woo woo bullshit’ until I realized my own perceptions were the very thing keeping me depressed and stuck. Changing them genuinely changed everything for me.

My Rock Bottom Moment

I used to have anxiety. I used to be terribly depressed. I used to lack confidence. I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t believe it was possible for me to have the life that I wanted, to travel the world, or to have a thriving, successful business.

I thought money was hard to come by. Name any bad belief system or negative thought pattern, and I probably had it. To be completely honest, I just wanted to die. I’m sharing this because I get so many messages from people saying, “I can’t build the life I love. I don’t have the opportunities that you had.” That’s bullshit. I was very much struggling, sitting at the bottom of a shitty life, just wanting it all to end.

A Skeptical Introduction to Chakras

Somewhere in that time span, somebody suggested that I should be open-minded enough to look at chakras. I rolled my eyes and said, “Woo woo fucking bullshit, get outta here with your nonsense.” But I don’t know how or why, at some point I started exploring chakras, energy, frequency, vibration, and manifestation. And slowly, things began to open up for me.

But it wasn’t in the way that you’re probably thinking. There was no miraculous overnight “woo” moment where my life became amazing. I wish. Instead, the change came through the slow, dawning awareness that I was my own worst enemy. And let me tell you, having to deal with that is really, really challenging.

The only reason you can’t live the life you want and do the things that you want to do is because of some stupid fucking thoughts in your brain that seem to just keep you in a loop no matter what you do.

It feels like no matter how hard you try or what decisions you make, you’re still repeating the same cycle. So, how do you begin to break out of that?

How I Went From Hating My Life to Living a Life I Love by Changing My Perceptions

I’m going to fast track and give you some very basic principles you can begin to implement. The only reality you can ever experience, period, is the reality that fits within your perceptions. You have two fundamental layers of perception.

  • Layer One: The perception you have of yourself.
  • Layer Two: The perception you have of the world.

Unfortunately, these layers of perception often get formed and shaped by the world we live in. Other people, society, your parents. Think about that time when your dad said, “money doesn’t grow on trees,” or when someone said you’re stupid, not pretty enough, or not smart enough. Our perceptions get shaped through experiences like that.

But the beautiful thing about perception is that you can begin to change it. It’s easier to change it if you have new information, but changing your perception can also bring you new information.

The Power of a New Perspective

For example, I was just walking up on a trail. Now, I’m down here on the beach. In just a few moments, I have an entirely different perception. From here, I get new information. I can see how high the tide is, how soft the sand is, or how wet it is. My point is simple.

When you change your position, you change your perception. When you change your perception, you change the information you have, and then that information can validate and pile up as evidence that proves your new perception.

People always think it’s hard to change their mindset or rewire their brain. It’s really easy. You just need to get access to a new perspective. That’s it. It’s that simple. When you have access to a new perspective, you have new information. You can then use that new information to evaluate your old perception and choose to keep the new one.

How to Choose Your Perceptions (and Your Reality)

Everything in your life can change when you master the ability to choose new perceptions at will. I want you to think of perceptions like clothes for a second. You can try on a shirt, see what it looks like in the mirror, choose whether or not you like it, and discover how it feels.

Most of us attach our identity to our perceptions, and as a result, changing them feels threatening to who we are. So we stay clinging to old perceptions while at the same time wanting a new life. That’s like wanting a new shirt but refusing to take off the old one. It doesn’t make any sense.

Release the identity from the perceptions. Choose the perceptions you want to have and start living like the person you want to become.
