There is a powerful concept that can be a game-changer for your personal freedom and ability to see new opportunities. Understanding that this green flag guarantees you’ll reach your goals is a revelation, and it all boils down to one simple idea; you don’t need a ‘reason’ to feel your emotions. It’s about allowing yourself to feel whatever you’re feeling, simply for the sake of feeling it.

The Green Flag of Emotional Freedom

The one green flag that immediately tells me somebody has the emotional maturity and freedom to reach their goals is this. It is their ability to feel whatever they’re feeling, simply to allow it, and to understand they do not need a reason why.

Someone who knows they can simply feel good because it feels good to feel good is operating from a place of power. That is reasoning enough. This is a person who knows they can feel happy just because they want to feel happy, and they don’t need to justify why they are so “super fucking happy.”

Similarly, this person can feel sad simply because they feel sad, without needing a tragic story to validate it. They can feel all their emotions… anger, frustration, love, hate, joy, excitement, passion… all of it, without needing a reason why. That is a person who’s free. That is a person who can do anything.

Why We Constantly Justify Our Feelings

Here’s why this is so rare. Our brains are wired to attach stories to emotions. In fact, 99% of humanity is conditioned that if they feel a certain way, they better have a story to back it up. If they’re feeling sad, down, happy, or excited, there must be a narrative.

Someone might ask, “Why do you feel that way?” If you feel sad, you better have a reason. If you feel angry, you better be able to justify it. If you don’t have a reason, then somebody might say, “Well, the way you’re feeling is invalid.”

And if somebody can tell me the way I’m feeling is invalid, if they can take away my ability to feel, which is one of the highest levels of assault against a human being.

Human beings have autonomy over certain things. We have the power of choice over our body, our mind, and our emotions. When those spaces are violated, it’s not very nice. So, we protect our emotional space. The way we protect it is by coming up with stories about why we feel a certain way. We say, “I feel this way because this, this, and this,” justifying all the negative emotions and sometimes the positive ones too.

How This Green Flag Guarantees You’ll Unlock Your Potential

When you set yourself free from all of that and can just say, “Well, I fucking feel this way because that’s what I wanna feel and it’s good for me,” you become truly free. You don’t need the story anymore. This means negative emotions can pass through quickly, unless you consciously choose to feel them longer. You can select any positive emotion and jump right into it because it’s simply good.

You can wake up in the morning and ask, “What do I choose to create today?” You can decide, “I choose to create a day filled with excitement, or peace, or stillness, or joy,” whatever you want. Then you can go feel that way and take off into your day, simply because you want to. Situations that would normally make a person feel bad lose their power over you. You can choose to feel a certain way, but you don’t have to.

You might notice some people who are able to still feel good even if all kinds of chaos is happening around them. They’ve figured out that the easiest and most powerful way to live is to just feel good because you want to, because feeling good is fucking good to feel. It’s really that simple.

Will this solve every problem in your life? No. Will this magically make you rich? Probably not. But it will make everything in your life much more enjoyable. You will have the freedom to feel the way you want to feel, rather than having your emotions dictated by circumstance.

Rewiring Your Brain to See New Opportunities

The real power that affects your tangible circumstances comes from how this changes the way your brain works. Your brain starts to fire different neurological patterns. The brain chemistry changes and begins to form different flows. Your default mode network reorganizes around your chosen state of feeling.

As a result, your thoughts look different. When your thoughts are different, your perceptions see different things. You’ll start to see more opportunities where before you would’ve seen none, because your vision would’ve been clouded by an emotion and the story that justified it.

To clarify, it’s not the emotion itself that clouds your ability to see an opportunity. It’s that the story we tell ourselves to justify the emotion makes the opportunity invalid. The story can’t include the opportunity because, oftentimes, that would invalidate the very emotion it’s trying to protect. We get stuck. The narrative in our mind won’t allow us to see a different way because that would invalidate our emotional state.

As you disconnect these two things… the story from the feeling… you can feel whatever you want, whenever you want. You don’t need a fucking reason. Now your mind is free to see opportunities that would otherwise be filtered out to maintain continuity between your feeling and its required story.

A Practical Example in Your Business

Let’s apply this to something tangible like your business. Imagine you’re showing up to work and something stressful happens. Maybe clients are slow, a mishap occurs, or a team member makes a mistake. If that situation makes you feel stressed, and you justify that stress by saying, “I’m stressed and frustrated because this and this happened,” now you’re locked in. If a simple solution exists, you can’t see it because that solution would invalidate your emotional state.

However, if you anchor your emotions in feeling good just because feeling good is great, the same situation plays out differently. Shit happens. But now, your brain can see the simple solution if one is there. Because your emotional state is not tied to a story, you’re free. You can take that opportunity, resolve the situation, and continue to feel good without it threatening your emotional state or your narrative.

If you had reacted by choosing to feel bad because of the situation, you would not be able to see or act on that opportunity. The opportunity itself would invalidate the emotion you were choosing to have.
