Stop Waiting for a Collaborator, It’s Just an Excuse
Have you been telling yourself, “I need a community,” “I need someone to collaborate with,” or “I need somebody to help me with this part or that part”? No, you don’t. Those are excuses that you tell yourself to delay action. That’s the part of you that doesn’t feel ready, worthy, or capable of doing it yet, and it’s just making up reasons to procrastinate.
Why Waiting for Collaboration is a Trauma Response
This need for a collaborator often stems from deeper fears and insecurities. It’s a way of avoiding the parts of the process that feel challenging or intimidating. Let’s break down what’s really happening when you wait for help.
- The part of you that lacks confidence in learning a new skill wants someone else to do that part of the project for you.
- The part of you that is scared to put yourself out there online wants someone to handle your social media.
- The part of you that is afraid of messing things up doesn’t want to touch the technology because you might break something.
Master Independent Creation Before Seeking Collaboration
Here’s the thing you need to understand. You already have all the information you need. The only people you will actually be able to collaborate with successfully are people who have also proved themselves. They are people who can stand on their own and have mastered the entire process of creation independently.
When you’ve mastered the process of independent creation, then you can actually connect with and sit in the same rooms and at the same table as other people who’ve mastered the art of independent creation.
That is when real, powerful collaborations can happen… after you’ve built the shit, after you’ve laid the foundation.

If you haven’t laid your foundation yet and you’re just waiting for a collaboration, some funding, or a resource to fall into your lap, I hate to break it to you, but you’re never going to build it. It’s never going to happen. So get off your ass and start building.
You Don’t Need Someone to Hold Your Hand
If you want to create something impactful, you must build on your own foundation. You don’t need someone to do it all for you or hold your hand. What you need is someone who will challenge you to stand up and walk the path yourself. You don’t need someone to show you the way. You need someone to remind you that you can make your own choices, chart your own path, and create your own way.
