Unpacking Nature’s 3-Step Plan for Business Success
When you break it down, there are truly only three parts of a business that matter. These fundamental pillars are not just abstract business concepts; they are the same processes that drive life itself. Understanding them can simplify your approach and align your work with the natural flow of creation and exchange.
- Create Something of Value: This is the essential first step. Your business must produce a product, service, or experience that provides genuine value to others. This is the foundation upon which everything else is built.
- Communicate That Value: It is not enough to simply create value; you must also effectively communicate it. This means reaching the people who genuinely need what you’re offering and sharing your message in a way that invokes action from them.
- Exchange That Value: The final part of the process is the exchange. This is where the value you have created and communicated is traded, completing the cycle and allowing the process to begin again.
The Universal Principle Mirrored in Nature
This three-part framework isn’t just a business model; it’s a universal law. In fact, all of nature, the entire universe, and even every cell in your body are constantly engaged in these three activities. From the neurons in your brain to the trees in a forest, this cycle is always in motion.
They’re creating value, communicating value with the rest of the body and exchanging the value. It’s happening through our nervous system, happening through our blood vessels, happening through the heart. It’s happening through every part of the body.
Think about it. The human body is a perfect example. Cells create vital proteins and energy. The nervous and circulatory systems communicate signals and transport nutrients. Finally, an exchange of oxygen and waste occurs, sustaining the entire organism. This is nature’s mechanism in its purest form; it creates, communicates, exchanges, and circulates value.
Similarly, out in the wild, this pattern persists. A forest ecosystem thrives on this principle, with trees creating oxygen and the vast mycelial networks under the ground communicating and exchanging nutrients between plants. Nature itself is a grand system that constantly creates value, communicates value, and exchanges value to maintain balance and growth. The same exact thing applies to your business. You create value, you communicate that value, and then you exchange that value.
