Your Power Is In Your Capacity To Receive

Discovering that your power is in your capacity to receive can be a profound perspective shift. It’s an understanding that has the potential to completely change your relationship with abundance, with control, and even with something as fundamental as your own breath.

The Language of ‘Taking’ vs. The Reality of ‘Receiving’

We always say, “take a deep breath.” Have you ever stopped to think about the very language we use in our daily lives? We tell ourselves to “take a break” or to “take what’s yours.” This is the language of force and of effort, a mindset rooted in grasping and assertion.

But what if this entire framework is based on a misunderstanding of how life, and even our own bodies, truly operate? The truth is, your body doesn’t actually take a breath. In fact, it’s physically impossible for it to do so.

The Sacred Mechanics of Your Breath

Deep inside your lungs, you have millions of tiny, paper-thin sacks called alveoli. This is where the magic happens, a sacred bridge where oxygen enters your bloodstream. However, these delicate structures have no ability to pull in air on their own.

The entire process is initiated by your diaphragm. When it contracts, it doesn’t pull air in. Instead, all your diaphragm does is create space. It creates a vacuum within your chest cavity, establishing a state of emptiness, a state of pure receptivity. Because nature abhors a vacuum, the universe, in the form of air, automatically rushes in to fill you.

Why Your Power Is In Your Capacity To Receive

This biological reality offers a powerful metaphor for life. You do not take a breath; you receive one. In the same way, you don’t take abundance; you receive it. You don’t forcefully take the next great idea; you create the space to receive it.

Your power is not in the taking. It’s in your capacity to receive.

Consider what happens when you are stressed, anxious, or grasping for control. Your entire system, both physically and energetically, becomes clenched, tightened, and constricted. In this state, you are not creating space. You are not empty. Consequently, the universe cannot rush in to fill you with what you desire.

A Simple Practice to Cultivate Receptivity

So, let’s try a simple “body key” to practice this principle of receiving. You can do this right now, wherever you are. Follow these simple steps to experience the shift from taking to allowing.

  1. Exhale Fully. Push all of the air out of your lungs. Get completely empty with a gentle “ah” sound until you feel you can’t go any further.
  2. Create Emptiness. Hold that state of emptiness for just a moment, consciously creating the space within.
  3. Just Receive. Now, simply relax and allow the air to return. Don’t pull it in. Just receive. Feel it fill your stomach and your chest. Simply allow.

Did you feel that? Your body breathes all by itself. It knows exactly what to do when you provide the space for it.

Create Space for Your Desires to Rush In

This principle extends far beyond your breath. Stop trying to take what you desire. Instead, focus on creating the sacred, empty space for it to manifest. Release the tension, let go of the need to control, and simply allow it to rush in.
